Perfecting prayer...Establishing Men...
Strengthening one another...Settling our families.
The Father's Heart is a gathering of men who want a heart like God's heart. So, we get together to seek to see and respond to the issues of our lives the way God calls us to respond to them. Through supporting one another, Bible study, prayer and actvities, we get closer and closer to the heart of God...because real men don't
just "have heart"...they have The Father's Heart.
"Behold I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him and he with Me."
- Revelation 3:20 (see also John 14:23)
Twice a year, in January and in June, I plan a gathering with as many of my seven brothers that are available. The gathering in January, is usually set on the Monday commemorating Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.'s Birthday.
Just days before our meeting this year, I had occasion to see my dad and as he was getting in the car with one of my brothers, I said to him (my brother), "See you Monday." At this my (at the time) 71-year-young dad said something with the longing, tenderness and humility of a child: "Can I come?" Anyone who has heard that question from his son or daughter knows how that can pull on your heart, and how difficult it is when you have to so "No" (like when they ask to go to work with you). But, hearing this from my dad produced strangely similar results in my heart. I said, "We'd be honored to have you come."
Even more strange is the reality that the God of Creation, Maker of Heaven and Earth, LORD, stands at the door of our lives and knocks! He could most certainly bust down every door in a fraction of His Breath, but He knocks. He knocks as if to say with a similar longing, tenderness and humility, "Can I come?" We must be sure, not only to "hear His voice and open" every door of our heart to the Father's knock, but we must take full advantage of the open door to our children's hearts so that they will remain open to us and ultimately their Father in heaven. Soon enough we
will be saying like my dad to our children, "Can I come?"
Prayer: Father, I open afresh to You this week. I have opened the front door of my heart to Your salvation, but I want to open to you the interior doors of my heart that house me as a husband, father, brother, servant, witness, and all of the other compartments of my life. Come make Your home with us and dine with us. Give me the grace and love to enter my child's heart to make it ready for You and help him/her recognize Your
In Jesus' Name.
